job profile:

The Director of Business Development will play a key role in driving revenue growth by identifying and developing new business opportunities, working closely with the Vice President, Economic & Social Development (ESD). The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of experience in leading business development and thrive in a dynamic and entrepreneurial environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify and evaluate new business opportunities with key international donors, particularly USAID.

  • Stay informed about global development trends, donor priorities and funding opportunities to inform business development strategy.

  • Be aware of the key competitors’ relevant activities to inform strategic positioning.

  • Lead the development of high-quality proposals from team recruitment through capture and submission.

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, NGO’s and international organizations.

  • Establish and nurture partnerships with external consultants and sub-contractors to further the organization’s ability to win proposals.

  • Collaborate with technical teams to ensure proposals align with donor requirements and leverage organizational expertise.

  • Engage with cross-functional teams, including program managers, finance and technical experts.

  • Establish ESD’s market positioning and drive select marketing activities.

  • Lead and mentor support staff, fostering a culture of innovation, excellence and respect.

  • Represent the ESD division at conferences and networking events.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience in international development, international relations, education, organizational development and training, public policy or related social impact field.

  • USAID experience required.

  • Familiarity with major donor agencies and their solicitation processes.

  • Experience preferred in areas such as: formal and informal workforce development, TVET, employability and/or soft skills development, youth and gender empowerment, private sector engagement, public-private partnerships, SME development, entrepreneurship, career counseling and pathways, institutional and educational systems reforms.

  • Proven track record of successful proposal development and contract wins.

  • Willingness to travel internationally.

  • Excellent communication and negotiating skills with the ability to influence diverse stakeholders at all levels.
