The Weeyacom-led consortium is preparing a proposal in response to the recently released USAID/BHA Sudan Monitoring Program solicitation, which  aims to provide third-party monitoring, evaluation, and special studies services to support USAID/BHA’s programs in Sudan. These services will continue to prioritize monitoring, verifying, and analyzing trends in programs implemented in Sudan’s South Kordofan and Blue Nile regions. The project also includes an optional service to perform programmatic evaluations or special studies in either the Two Regions or other inaccessible states and/or localities in Sudan.

job profile:

We are seeking a highly skilled Remote Sensing and GIS Specialist with extensive experience in USAID programs to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of geospatial technologies and their applications in development projects. This role involves analyzing satellite imagery, conducting spatial data analysis, and providing GIS support to enhance decision-making processes in USAID-funded projects.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and implement GIS and remote sensing applications to support USAID projects, focusing on monitoring, conflict, disaster response, and humanitarian assistance This includes supporting the development of a platform / dashboard that integrates imagery and GIS data

  • Process and analyze open-source satellite imagery and aerial photographs to extract relevant information related to project needs and broad trends (e.g. macro-economic activity, crop cultivation, land use, floods, surface water quantity and quality, etc. )

  • Develop and maintain spatial databases, ensuring data accuracy and accessibility for project teams.

  • Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to identify geospatial requirements and integrate GIS solutions into project planning and implementation.

  • Conduct capacity building and training sessions for project staff and partners on GIS and remote sensing tools and techniques.

  • Prepare and present technical reports, maps, and visualizations to communicate findings and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Stay abreast of the latest developments in remote sensing and GIS technologies and evaluate their potential application in USAID programs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Geography, Environmental Science, Remote Sensing, GIS, or a related field

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in GIS and remote sensing, with at least 2 years working on USAID-funded projects.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience mentoring and training staff in RS / GIS.

  • Proficient in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, Tableau, QGIS) and remote sensing applications (e.g., ERDAS Imagine, ENVI)

  • Proficient in digital dashboard development that integrates imagery and GIS data

  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to process and interpret complex spatial data.

  • Experience in managing spatial databases and conducting spatial analyses.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical audiences.

  • Familiarity with international development issues and the operational context of USAID programs.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a global team, managing multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
